ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On April 6, in honor of Donate Life Month, Presbyterian celebrated the gift of organ donation with a brief ceremony and flag-raising in front of Presbyterian Hospital.

Building on the success of Presbyterian's kidney transplant program, which has been in existence since 1986, Presbyterian Hospital also celebrated the launch of its pancreas transplant program last year. It is now the only hospital in New Mexico to offer pancreas transplants. For select patients with severe complications from type 1 diabetes, pancreas transplants are a potentially life-saving treatment option.

This year's Donate Life symbol is the rainbow, which represents the power one person has to "be a rainbow in someone else's cloud."  In 2017, Presbyterian's transplant team participated in 42 kidney transplants and seven organ donors were responsible for saving the lives of 20 people.
