Presbyterian Hospital Receives High Score For Maternity Care

January 7, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Labor & Delivery and Mom Baby units at Presbyterian Hospital recently received a total score of 93 out of 100 for data submitted in 2013 for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC) survey.

The mPINC survey is a national, voluntary survey of infant feeding practices in maternity care settings. Presbyterian Hospital was among 2,666 facilities nationwide to participate. Scores were recently released in a benchmark report placing Presbyterian Hospital in the top eighth percentile of hospitals nationally for best practices in maternity care. The average national score was 75, and the average score in New Mexico was 77.

“Participating in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care survey reflects our commitment to providing quality maternity care,” said Carolyn Green, administrator, Women’s Service Line at Presbyterian Hospital. “Congratulations to the physicians, providers and many dedicated staff in our Labor & Delivery and Mom Baby units at Presbyterian Hospital for achieving such a high score.”

The mPINC survey aims to reduce the occurrence of events and experiences that undermine a mother’s breastfeeding intentions and decisions by examining the hospital’s  labor and delivery care; postpartum feeding of breastfed infants, breastfeeding assistance, and contact between mother and infant; discharge care; staff training; and structural/organizational aspects of care delivery.
